. good evening, everyone. i'm carolyn johnson. >> and i'm dan ashley. did that warning come in time for the bar pilot and the crew to do anything? that will be a key question as the investigation begins in ernest. tonight a representative from the national transportation safety board is in the bay area. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard is live with what we are learning about the moments before the accident. cornell? >> yes, before yesterday's accident there was a warning. ing way tanker was too close to the bay bridge. tonight as you can see that oil tanker remains anchored off treasure island. tomorrow the ntsb gets to work to find out what happened. the coast guard has listened to recordings of radio traffic and confirms the tanker overseas rain bar was warned it was on a collision course with the tower of the bay bridge. it came from the vessel traffic service. the new information is sure to be a factor when the ntsb begins its investigation. >> what we will be doing is gathering investigation. throughout the investigation we will be looking at the van, the machine and the envi
'm carolyn johnson. >> i'm dan ashley. the mother is scared, but the toddler is okay. it happened in east san jose. thomas roman is there live to explain exactly what happened. thomas? >> dan, we spoke to the child's father who told us he is not going to comment. he will let san jose police deal with this attempted kidnapping. the mother basically had a tug of war with this suspect in order to save her child. san jose police received a call at 5:37. according to police the two-year-old was playing in this front yard here in east san jose. toys belonging to the children in the home are now gathered by the home's front door. the child's mother told police a stranger came up to where her daughter was playing and made a comment about the child. the comment made the mother uncomfortable. as she picked the girl up, the stranger grabbed the girl's legs and tried to pull the child away from her. after a short struggle with the man the mother managed to pull her and run and run into the house where she called police. the suspect ran down pavin drive after the ordeal. several police units responded and

evening. i'm carolyn johnson. dan ashley has the night off. this fire began just before 7:00 tonight at the original pepper belly's come tee club in fairfield. ama dates is there live with the latest. >> carolyn, take a look behind me and you can see how many firecrews are still out here four hours after the first call came in. a lot of the firecrews have left, but there are many on scene. tdy a comedy and variety theater is on the corner of texas street. take a look at what it looked like earlier when the fire first broke out. sky 7hd is high above the scene. the flames went through the roof. they have been able to contain the fire to just that building. when we got here it was burning so hot they could not stay. they had to go outside and fight this fire defensively. five alarms, several firecrews from napa and solano county came out to battle the blaze. right now crews are just wrapping up. >> we are going to keep the company out here for the rest of the night. we are going have the investigation team come in in the morning which is the normal protocol. we have no leads as far as

announce he is under investigation. good evening, everyone. i'm carolyn johnson. >> i'm dan ashley. tonight san francisco police are investigating an allegation of sexual assault involving crabtree. police say the incident happened last sunday morning in a san francisco hotel. he has not been detained or arrested. crabtree is said to be cooperating with police. he joined the team on the trip to atlanta for sunday's nfc championship game, and that's where abc7 news sports reporter mike shumann is live tonight. shu, what bad timing for this bombshell. >> well, dan, there is never good timing for a situation like this. the 49ers arrived 11:15 eastern standard time at the ritz carlton in downtown atlanta. crabtree was on the first bus. he was in the second row. he stood up and then sat back down as about 10 or 15 other players and 49er personnel got off the bus almost trying to distract us. they were trying to make it tough for us to shoot anybody getting off the bus. and then michael walked off the bus. you can see he was escorted by a personnel security man in the red baseball cap. he was the
man the city wants to hire to help fight crime. i'm carolyn johnson. >> i'm dan ashley. cop in los angeles and new now they are deciding whether they should hire him as a police consultant. alan wang is now live. he is certainly continue controversial. >> yes, the council addressing this an hour ago. but they had 150 speakers and they are prepared to go until 2:00 a.m. the council will be voting on whether or not to hire an over all -- an over all police consulting team that includes william bratten. about 20 police officers were called in to deal with a large group of people who do not want the city to hire high-profile police consultant. his zero tolerance police strategies have been controversial in other cities where he has worked. they say it gives officers too much discretion and leads to racial profiling and harassment. one man said his recent experience is typical. >> a police officer told me why am i sitting on my neighbor's stairs? i said because this is my neighbor's stairs. >> they left leaving a contingent of 10 local pastors to appeal to the hiring of bratton. >> i su

'm carolyn johnson.crime scs removed possible evidence from the home. 10-year-old kevin collins disappeared february 10th, 1984. he was last seen at a bus stop. it is a block away from today's search. abc7 news broke this story this afternoon at 4:00 with details on the investigation that no one else has. john alston spoke with kevin's mother and brother. >> kevin, colin's mother said the family would have performed some form of closure -- preferred some form of closure. the bones indicate they were from an animal, but a final determination has to be made. police finally left the home after an all day search for the body of kevin collins. the boy's mother getting calls and e-mails of support. >> partly relief it is animal bones. partly sorry it is not closure. especially for my children and my grandchildren. >> only abc7 news was here this morning as san francisco police and the fbi began their search of the basement. a cadaver-sniffing dog detected something in the floor and city crews tore up a portion of the concrete discovering some bones. sources with knowledge of the investigation tel
are refusing to give up hope 24 years after she vanished. i'm carolyn johnson. >> and i'm dan ashley. the case remains an active investigation after all of these years. he was last seen on this date in 1989 on her way to an ice skating lesson in dublin. s and he is live withh her with the latest on the case. john? >> reporter: dan, eileen was last seen here on san ramon road. her family and her supporters walked by here in an annual ritual to keep this case alive. for the 24th year they made this walk through dublin and leading more than a hundred supporters. >> the turnout is amazing. i always worry there won't be anybody here and we have had a marvelous and an amazing turnout. >> i just hope this all leads to some information that might come out about eileen. >> reporter: eileen was 13 when she vanished while walking home from wells middle school on her way home from ice skating practice. that was january 30th, 1989. a missing children website has photos of what she might look like as an adult. tonight the procession went along the route she was thought to have followed when she vanished. in
